Debbie Tonnesen

Debbie serves as director for the Clemmer-Long Center for Vocation and Purpose. She is a Lenoir-Rhyne alumna with a long connection to LRU. After earning a B.A. in Middle Grades Education/French in 1988, she worked as a French teacher for Catawba County Schools within the FLES pilot program (Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools). She has worked in multiple educational settings and also spent over ten years as a full-time caregiver and Mom of three children. When she returned to the classroom, she focused primarily on 6^thgrade Language Arts and 11^thgrade English. After moving back to Hickory in 2016, she joined Lenoir-Rhyne as a staff member and recently completed LRU’s M.A. in Leadership program. She has worked within the Clemmer-Long Center for Vocation and Purpose for the last six years and feels deeply called to this work!

Debbie and her husband, Phil, an LR graduate and Lutheran pastor, enjoy hiking and other outdoor adventures with their family and canine companions. Debbie’s other favorites include reading, eating dark chocolate, and visiting new places.
