Overview
The primary objective of this course is to teach the basic theory and principles of psychological assessment. The quantification of psychological constructs thought test development and test use are two common activities of psychologists in every branch of the field. Through lectures, discussion, and individual and group activities you will learn about the basic concepts, issues, and tools used in psychological testing and measurement and how these concepts, issues, and tools are relevant to the work that psychologists do. Students will learn how tests and measurements are used in educational, clinical, and organizational settings. At the conclusion of this course students will be more knowledgeable about psychological tests and will have a basic understanding of how tests are developed and used. It should be noted that this course is not intended to make one competent at administering or interpreting tests at a professional level, though this course will provide theoretical and empirical knowledge necessary to develop these skills in graduate training.
